Merchants Fleet adds 113 FleetShare vehicles in Puerto Rico

Merchants Fleet has expanded FleetShare, its managed vehicle access program, to Puerto Rico, the company said on Oct. 20. The operation went live Sept. 14 with 113 Merchants-managed vehicles supporting an unnamed global e-commerce company’s last-mile delivery operations on the island.

It is FleetShare’s first deployment outside the continental United States. Drivers at the site reserve and access vehicles through a mobile app, according to the release.

FleetShare now covers more than 8,000 managed vehicles across North America. Merchants, which leases vehicles to package delivery companies, runs the program for last-mile delivery, utility, and other fleets that share vehicles among drivers.

“Our expansion into Puerto Rico is more than geographic growth,” said Whitney Reynolds, vice president of FleetShare at Merchants Fleet. “It demonstrates FleetShare’s flexibility and reinforces our vision of helping organizations rethink how they manage fleet operations.”

How drivers get vehicles under FleetShare

FleetShare is designed to get a driver into a vehicle without a manual key handoff, whiteboard, spreadsheet, or phone call, the release said. It pairs connected key boxes with driver profiles and reservation and assignment tools. Fleet managers track assignments, availability, and utilization in one place.

The key boxes run on cellular service and can be installed wherever there is power and a connection, according to Merchants’ product page. The release said the system operates independently of a customer’s Wi-Fi or local network.

In October 2025, Merchants added three features to FleetShare, Work Truck reported: keyless access through automaker and third-party integrations, geofencing, and end-of-use driver surveys.

Customer and contract terms not disclosed

But the release does not name the customer or disclose contract terms or pricing. Nor does it say what types of vehicles make up the Puerto Rico fleet, how they are serviced on the island, or whether more will be added.

For now, the 113 vehicles are the only measure of the deal’s size. Reynolds said the program is built for fleets of any size.

“Whether a customer is operating dozens of vehicles or thousands across multiple locations, FleetShare helps simplify fleet management,” she said.

Why it matters: FleetShare’s Puerto Rico launch puts app-based vehicle access into a 113-vehicle last-mile operation, the program’s first outside the continental U.S. The customer, contract terms, and how the island fleet is serviced remain undisclosed.
