Odyssey launches international metal transport service

Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corp. introduced its “load and roll pallet” (LRP) service for shippers of coiled metal products, as well as those with long and flat metal products.    Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corp. has started a new international logistics service for the metals industry, which the company says is an extension of its current domestic service.
   “We already have a significant presence in the North American intermodal metals market, providing door-to-door service into Canada and Mexico,” said Odyssey President and CEO Bob Shellman in a statement. “This will provide our customers with one-stop shopping for all their domestic and international intermodal movements.”
   Specifically, the new international service will use Odyssey’s “load and roll pallets” (LRPs) for shippers of coiled metal products, as well as handle those shippers with long and flat metal products.
   “Shipping metals is very specialized,” said Paul Sever, executive vice president and general manager of CMI Logistics, Odyssey’s intermodal metals business unit. “Metal can be damaged by movement, moisture, mishandling and improper securement as well as other factors. Our LRP and system of services significantly mitigate those factors and reduce the costs associated with the utilization of expensive wood skids and heavy blocking and bracing.”
   Since the LRP method is approved by nearly all the North American Class I railroads, Odyssey said the service provides a “seamless transition” from ocean transport to intermodal stack-train services, eliminating additional handling of metal shipments during door-to-door international moves.
