Online marketplace for repositioning empty containers launched

Boston Consulting Group’s “xChange” service is already being tested by a majority of top 20 global ocean container carriers and leasing companies, according to a statement from the company.    Boston Consulting Group has launched an online marketplace that aims to make it cheaper and easier for ocean carriers to reposition empty containers.
   The “xChange” service was launched on Nov. 17, and is being tested by a majority of the top 20 global container carriers and leading leasing companies, Boston Consulting said in a statement, adding that it believes the service could reduce the movement of empty containers by as much as 30 percent.
   The platform will enable the direct exchange of idle containers and other equipment between market participants, such as container shipping companies and other logistics companies.
