OOCL volume, revenue lower in third quarter

   OOCL lifted 1,349,205 TEU in the third quarter, 0.9-percent less volume than in the same period last year, according to a filing by its parent company, OOIL, with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. 
   OOCL’s container volumes were down 3.5 percent in the transpacific and down 14 percent in the Asia-Europe trade, but were up 0.4 percent in the transatlantic and 4.8 percent in the intraAsia and Australasia services when compared to the third quarter of 2012.
   Revenues for the third quarter were $1.4 billion, 10.1-percent below the same period a year earlier. Revenues, when compared to the third quarter of 2012, were off on all trade lanes: down 8.9 percent in the transpacific, down 22.4 percent in Asia-Europe, down 4.1 percent in the transatlantic, and down 5.5 percent in the intraAsia/Australasia lane.
   Loadable capacity decreased by 0.8 percent. The overall load factor was the same as the corresponding period in 2012. Overall average revenue per TEU dropped by 9.4 percent compared to the third quarter of last year.
   For the first nine months of 2013, total volumes decreased by 1.3 percent to 3,897,743 TEU over the same period last year, and total revenues recorded a 6-percent decrease to $4.2 billion.
