Port Manatee names Whitmore chairman

   The Manatee County Port Authority has appointed Carol Whitmore to chairman for 2013.
   Port authority members serve four-year staggered terms with annual election of officers. The authority sets policy and approves major expenditures for Port Manatee. It is comprised of the seven members of the elected Manatee County Commission, but with distinctively separate officers and financial accountability.
   In addition to Whitmore, John Chappie was elected first vice chairman of the port; Michael Gallen, second vice chairman; and Vanessa Baugh, third vice chairman.
