Port of L.A. reports September container volumes 9% higher

The Port of Los Angeles says cargo volumes at their highest level since August 2006.

   The Port of Los Angeles said it handled 775,133 TEUs in September, nine percent more than in the same 2013 period.
   It was the busiest single month at the port since August 2006.
   The port said the increased volume reflected peak season volumes and larger vessels calling at the Port of Los Angeles.
   Container imports increased 11 percent to 411,507 TEUs in September. Exports rose less than 1 percent to 150,679 TEUs. Empties were up 12 percent to 212,947 TEUs.
