SAS Cargo delivers pandas to Copenhagen Zoo

Mao Sun and Xing Er were flown from China to Denmark and then transported by truck to their new home.

SAS Cargo transported the giant pandas Mao Sun and Xing Er from China to Denmark last week.
The pandas traveled in separate customized boxes in the forward compartment of SK996, renamed Panda2 for the flight from Beijing to Copenhagen. The aircraft also was decorated with images and names of the pandas.
Media, ambassadors and other dignitaries were on hand when the flight arrived on time at the Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal in Copenhagen on April 4. As speeches were being given, the pandas were moved from the aircraft to a specially decorated truck that took them to the Copenhagen Zoo.
“We have a long experience in transporting live animals and sensitive shipments, but this was of course a very special event with such dignitaries onboard,” said Leif Rasmussen, president and CEO of SAS Cargo Group A/S.
The Copenhagen Zoo is set to open Thursday.
