Second ‘Triple E’ enters service

Maersk Line has taken delivery of Majestic Maersk, the second of 20 18,270-TEU containerships being built for it by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.
Mikkel Elbek Linnet, a spokesman for Maersk, said the ship should start rotation today, Aug. 12, but was unable to confirm a report that the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, will christen the ship in Copenhagen in late September.
The Triple-E ship will, in 2013, be operated at a reduced capacity of 14,200 TEU in line with the largest vessels currently deployed on the company’s AE10 route, as not all ports and terminals will be ready to handle a fully loaded Triple-E this year, Linnet said. – Chris Dupin
