Savi gains approval for use in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Chile

Savi gains approval for use in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Chile Savi Technology, a subsidiary of Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin, said Tuesday that government official in Taiwan, Malaysia and Chile have approved the use of Savi's active radio frequency identification tags and readers.
   The certifications, according to the firm, will allow further global expansion of Mountain View, Calif.-based Savi's active RFID networks, which remotely monitor the location, security and environment of cargo containers.
   With the three new certifications, Savi's products are approved for use in more than 50 countries.
   Formal approval of Savi's technology in Taiwan, where a joint venture between Savi Technology and Hong Kong-based Hutchison Port Holdings, Savi Networks, is already using the products at the Port of Kaohsiung, came from the nation's Directorate General of Telecommunications. The joint venture is in the midst of a full gate and crane deployment utilizing Savi RFID readers.
   Savi's RFID technology was certified for use in Malaysia by that nation's Communications and Multimedia Commission. Savi Networks is currently expanding its RFID monitoring network at the Westports Malaysia Port in Port Klang, where Savi readers will cover gates while signposts will monitor rail traffic.
   In Chile, certification was awarded by that nation's Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones.
