P&O NEDLLOYD SETS UP CENTER TO COMPLY WITH 24-HOUR U.S. CUSTOMS RULE    P&O Nedlloyd has set up a documentation operations center in India staffed with 35 people to handle additional documentation requirements triggered by the U.S. Customs’ recent 24-hour prior manifest transmission rule applicable to inbound U.S. containerized cargoes.
   Barry Williams, executive director of P&O Nedlloyd, said that the center is part of the company’s documentation shared service center in Pune, India.
   The carrier has also filed with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission an amendment to its U.S. inbound tariff to charge shippers a $25 documentation fee per bill of lading. The carrier said that its new documentation charge is in line with similar charges introduced by other container shipping lines.
