Odfjell Terminals (Rotterdam) expanding Odfjell Terminals (Rotterdam) B.V. is investing in additional storage tanks, a new quay wall for deep-sea vessels and an additional distillation column at its toll processing plant in the Port of Rotterdam.
   Odfjell is part of the Norwegian Odfjell ASA group, owners of more than 100 tankers and a global network of 16 tank terminals.
   The company will phase in three additional storage tanks to the Netherlands port, each with a capacity of 27,500 cubic meters, for mineral oil products and/or bulk chemicals.
   The multipurpose tanks are scheduled to be operational in September and will be equipped with domes and inner-floating roofs enabling Odfjell to store bulk chemicals such as ethanol and methanol, next to products like gasoil, gasoline and gasoline components.
   At the same time, Odfjell is also upgrading two other tank pits at the terminal, by building 21 new, smaller, mild steel tanks, representing a total capacity of more than 20,000 cbm. The first 11 tanks should be in service in the third quarter of this year while the remaining 10 tanks are expected to be operational in the following period.
   In collaboration with the Rotterdam Port Authority, Odfjell is also converting its single-berth jetty 10 into a multi-jetty “L-jetty,” enabling the terminal to handle inland tankers. Once jetty 10 is upgraded, a new 450-meter (595 feet)-long quay wall will be constructed, replacing the existing barge finger pier 11. This new quay will allow Odfjell to facilitate an additional deep-sea vessel and two further barges. First piling for the new quay wall will take place on March 8.
   In another development, Odfjell’s Petrochemical Industrial Distillation (PID) unit will start constructing a fourth distillation column in the second quarter to be operational next year. The extra column will increase PID’s toll annual processing capacity by 300,000 tons to 700,000 tons, as well as enabling it to process a broader range of petrochemical products, as the new column can deal with high boiling points.
