COSCO’s Wang named Asian Shipowners Forum’s first secretary general

COSCO’s Wang named Asian Shipowners Forum’s first secretary general The Asian Shipowners Forum today selected China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co. executive Wang Cheng as its first secretary general.
   Wang is vice general manager of COSCO's transportation division.
   “We are confident that the appointment of Mr. Wang represents the dawn of a new era for a collective voice for Asian ship owners,” said Capt. Wei Jia-fu, chairman of the 17th ASF, who is also president of COSCO.
   Wang’s first responsibility will be to set up the permanent secretariat office in Singapore, as agreed in May at the 16th ASF meeting in Busan, Korea.
   The ASF is a voluntary organization of the ship owner associations of Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners' Associations comprising shipping association of ASEAN countries. It’s estimated that ASF owners and managers control and operate nearly 50 percent of the world’s cargo carrying fleet.
