The Avenel facility will cover 300,000 square feet, with room for future growth. The facility yard has 240 trailer parking spaces, 40-dock doors and is located in close proximity to the port of Newark.
The new distribution centre is equipped with a “Rapistan System 200 Sorter,” providing automated cross-dock services.
Maersk Logistics said that, with the new facility opening, it has introduced an advanced replenishment program that offers clients the ability to integrate international purchasing and domestic replenishment. This will allow them to reduce the amount of inventory held as safety stock to meet the demands of the local markets, the company said.
