Port of Savannah container volumes rise 2.8% in November

In addition to the growth in container cargo, the 13th straight month of gains for the port, breakbulk tonnage increased 25 percent at Savannah in November to reach 248,500 tons, according to data from the Georgia Port Authority (GPA).   The Port of Savannah moved 309,147 TEUs in November 2017, a 2.8 percent increase from the same month last year, according to statistics released Dec. 21 by the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).
   November marked 13 straight months of growth in container trade, GPA data show, with every month in 2017 above 300,000 TEUs the at Savannah’s Garden City Terminal.
   Additionally, breakbulk tonnage increased 25 percent at Savannah in November to reach 248,500 tons, with lumber, iron and steel leading the way.
   Between the Port of Savannah, Port of Brunswick and inland terminal operations, the Georgia Ports Authority handled 2.8 million tons of cargo overall in November, an increase of 8.4 percent compared to the same month last year, GPA said.
   At the Port of Brunswick’s East River Terminal, terminal operator Logistec handled more than triple the business in bulk cargo in November 2017 compared to the same month a year ago, with most of the growth coming in increased demand for wood pellets, perlite and dry urea, according to GPA data.
