DOT awards Calif. colleges funds to study transportation issues

DOT awards Calif. colleges funds to study transportation issues Cal State San Bernardino researchers have been awarded a $408,000 U.S. Department of Transportation grant to study traffic congestion, air pollution and freeway maintenance.
   The four-year grant is one of 18 funding awards announced Friday by the DOT’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration. CSSB's Leonard Transportation Center was one of only two California universities, out of 13 awardees nationwide, to receive one of the research grants. The California Department of Transportation will match the DOT funds, giving CSSB a total of $816,000.
   The Transportation Center/Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Davis, also received one of the grants to study sustainable transportation.
   The research grants' guidelines require all research funded by the grants to be applicable in helping to solve national and regional transportation challenges.
