Detsche Bahn 2010 revenue up 17%

Detsche Bahn 2010 revenue up 17%    German railroad and logistics company Deutsche Bahn last week reported a strong recovery in 2010 with adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 1.9 billion euros ($2.7 billion), 10.7 percent more than the same 2009 figure.
   Revenue was 34.4 billion euro ($49 billion) in 2010, 17.3 percent more than in 2009.
   DB said it was able to record substantially higher volumes in all of its relevant markets in 2010, especially in its rail freight transport and its global transport and logistics activities.
   DB Schenker's rail business unit saw volumes sold increase 12.6 percent to 105.8 billion ton kilometers. The volume of goods shipped jumped by 21.8 percent to 415.4 million tons. Train capacity utilization rate climbed by 3.8 percent. Revenue grew 13 percent.
   DB Schenker Logistics business unit “posted favorable development in all of its segments and regions,” the company said, with higher revenue and profit mainly driven by strong economic growth in Germany and Asia.
   DB Schenker’s European land transport increased 15.4 percent, air freight volumes rose 18.7 percent, ocean freight volumes improved 15.7 percent, and contract logistics business grew 13.7 percent. Total revenue posted by DB Schenker increased 26.7 percent.
