NYK containership rescues seafarer

The NYK Lynx came to the aid of a sailor in distress 260 miles off the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean.    An NYK Line containership Tuesday rescued a sailor in distress 260 nautical miles off the Galapagos Islands. The NYK Lynx received an alert from a recreational yacht, which had been adrift in the Pacific Ocean for two weeks after a mechanical failure in its main engine.
   NYK Line said in a statement the Panama-flagged NYK Lynx was en route from Callao, Peru to Manzanillo, Mexico when it received the distress call. Upon arrival at the source of the signal, the NYK Lynx “successfully rescued one person in good health,” the ocean carrier said.
   The rescued sailor was not identified and is scheduled to disembark the NYK Lynx at the Port of Manzanillo May 15.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, the 6,200-TEU NYK Lynx is currently deployed on the joint NYK, MOL and “K” Line ALX/CWL/ANDES loop that connects Asia with the West Coast of Mexico and South America. Hapag-Lloyd takes slots on the weekly service, which is operated with 11 vessels with an average capacity of 6,282 TEUs.
   The ALX/CWL/ANDES has a full port rotation of Keelung, Hong Kong, Da Chan Bay, Xiamen, Shanghai, Ningbo, Busan, Manzanillo (MX), Callao, Iquique, Valparaiso, Lirquen, Callao, Manzanillo (MX), Tokyo, and back to Keelung
   Managed by Columbia Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd., the NYK Lynx employs a crew of 24 seafarers of various nationalities led by Captain Liviu Vasile.
