Chrysler to export cars from Grays Harbor
The Pasha Group has entered a deal with Chrysler to use its auto handling facilities at the Washington state Port of Grays Harbor to export cars to Asia.
The Union Pacific Railroad will make direct calls to the terminal with Chrysler's cars. Railcars and accessorial equipment will be available at the terminal for inland backhaul.
'We are confident that Grays Harbor's strategic location, infrastructure and labor force will make this export operation a success for our partners,' said Port Commission President Jack Thompson, in a statement.
According to Grays Harbor's Daily World, Chrysler expects to ship from 17,000 to 25,000 cars through the port from its five Detroit area plants.
The first vessel to receive the Chrysler vehicles is scheduled to arrive at Grays Harbor on Jan. 24. Chrysler has selected NAPA Service, jointly owned by Praxis Logistics and Partner Shipping, to carry this traffic to various Asian destinations. Pasha Stevedoring & Terminals is the West Coast stevedore for the NAPA service.
Pasha Hawaii has been the exclusive provider of ocean transportation for Chrysler in the West Coast/Hawaii trade lane for more than four years, via Pasha's roll-on/roll-off vessel Jean Anne. Pasha Distribution Services provides auto transporter services for Chrysler in Southern California, and the Midwest, where Pasha put in place a transport management tracking system for Chrysler's plant in Belvidere, Ill.
