Geest, DFDS join forces between Norway and Rotterdam

Geest, DFDS join forces between Norway and Rotterdam    European short-sea operator’s Geest North Sea Line and DFDS Lys Line Tuesday started a space charter agreement on two weekly loops between Norway and Rotterdam.
   Two 750-TEU vessels will operate on two loops. The services cover six Norwegian ports: Oslo, Moss, Brevik and Kristiansand, all served twice weekly, plus Fredrikstad and Larvik on a weekly basis. In Rotterdam, the joint service calls twice weekly at the DFDS Maasvlakte terminal and weekly at the ECT Delta. In addition, Hamburg will be served southbound on a weekly basis.
   “We believe there is a larger demand for a short-sea alternative from and to Norway. As the service is catering for both deep-sea feeder traffic and the European short-sea/intermodal market, the potential cargo base is huge,” said Gerard de Groot, Geest’s commercial director. Geest is a subsidiary of Icelandic carrier Samskip.
