The trailership Bayamon was built in 1970 by the Ship Shipbuilding Corp. of Chester, Pa. It will be dismantled by All Star Metals of Brownsville, Texas. All Star Metals purchased the ship from MarAd for $12,221.
The James River Reserve Fleet is one of three National Defense Reserve Fleets anchorage sites. MarAd maintains the fleet as a reserve of ships for national defense and emergencies and arranges for their disposal when deemed obsolete.
