U.S. trade deficit widens in June

The U.S. trade deficit in June, which was the largest in 10 months, reached $44.5 billion as import volumes rose.    The U.S. Commerce Department reported Friday the nation’s trade deficit rose 8.7 percent month-over-month in June to a seasonally adjusted $44.5 billion, the widest in 10 months.
   Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal anticipated the deficit would reach $43.2 billion for the month, while economists polled by Reuters forecasted the deficit would total $43.1 billion.
   June’s deficit reflected a $3.8 billion increase in the goods deficit to $66.0 billion and a $0.3 billion rise in the services surplus to $21.5 billion.
   Imports grew 1.9 percent from May to $227.7 billion, while exports inched up 0.3 percent from May to $183.2 billion.
