CMA CGM: ?MSC Napoli? sold in perfect state

CMA CGM: ôMSC Napoliö sold in perfect state CMA CGM said late Monday that the box ship 'MSC Napoli,' beached off England's Devon coast, was in a 'perfect state of repair' when sold in 2002 to Zodiac Maritime Agencies Ltd., despite having been involved in an accident near Singapore in the previous year.
   In March 2001, the 1991-built 'CMA-CGM Normandie' — the former name of the 'MSC Napoli' — hit a coral reef in the Strait of Malacca, causing substantial damage to the bottom of the ship and grounding it for about a month. The ship was subsequently repaired by the Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard in Vietnam, a joint venture between Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. of Korea and the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp.
   'The parallel drawn by some between the damage suffered by the 'MSC Napoli' off the coast of Devon and the grounding of the vessel in 2001 is technically unfounded,” said CMA CGM in a statement.
