Union Pacific issues response to Illinois train derailment

   There were no injuries to the crew or the public, no releases and no impacted motorist grade crossings, Union Pacific spokeswoman Calli Hite told American Shipper Thursday.
   The 96-car manifest train was hauling mixed freight from Butler, Wis. to Provisio, Ill., and the incident involved 11 derailed cars – nine hauling molten sulphur and two that were empty, Hite said.
   The cars are DOT 111s and AAR 211s (the Association of American Railroads’ governed tank car that is an equivalent of a DOT 111) with jacketing and insulation.
   “We are coordinating with hazmat responders and local road authorities, and we apologize for the impact to morning commuters on nearby Highway 41,” Hite said.
   The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
