DHS expands air cargo security test    The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it will begin testing air cargo scanning technologies this spring at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport as part of the department’s previously announced $30 million demonstration program for explosives detection.
   The pilot program will assess the ability to inspect large amounts of cargo within an air cargo facility, and how quickly it can be done to minimize the impact on business operations.
   Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky is the third airport to participate in the pilot program, which began last June at San Francisco International Airport followed by Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Technology being tested by the Transportation Security Administration and DHS’s Science and Technology directorate in San Francisco includes X-ray systems, explosives trace detectors and automated explosives detection systems. Detecting hidden intruders and stowaways is the focus of tests under way at Sea-Tac.
