GAL adds ships to multipurpose North America/Africa loop

GAL adds ships to multipurpose North America/Africa loop Galborg Pte Ltd, trading as Gulf Africa Line, is adding two multipurpose vessels to its service between South Africa and North America.
   GAL's service moves a combination of containers, breakbulk, bulk and project cargoes with a sailing frequency of about every 20 days calling Altamira, Mexico; Houston; New Orleans; Jacksonville, Fla.; Cape Town; Durban; Maputo; Richards Bay; Durban; and back to Altamira.
   The 'Yellowstone,' a 31,000-deadweight-ton open-hatch, box-shaped con-bulker with five hatches and holds, will enter the service when it calls at Jacksonville on March 23. The 31,000 dwt 'tweendecker 'Aalborg,' which also has five hatches and holds, is expected to be phased into the loop in April or May.
   GAL said both ships have 'excellent container capacities.'
   'This equates to an investment into the service close to $30 million, and thereby a firm commitment to the development of trade between North America and the Southern tip of Africa,' said a spokesperson for MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping Pty Ltd., general agents of the service in Cape Town.
