Ryder acquires California contract carrier

Ryder acquires California contract carrier    Ryder System has reached an agreement to buy The Scully Cos., a Fontana, Calif.-based lease and contract carrier business.
   The deal is expected to close in late January. Financial terms were not disclosed.

   Ryder Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Greg Swienton said the acquisition significantly expands the company's fleet management services in the western United States, as well as its dedicated contract carriage services.
   In the agreement, Ryder will acquire Scully's fleet management business consisting of about 2,100 lease units and rental vehicles, and about 200 contract customers served from six facilities. These locations include Fontana, Sacramento, City of Industry, Montebello, and Hayward in California and Phoenix.
   Ryder also obtains Scully's contract carriage business, including customers served from 20 locations throughout the western United States.
