Crowley opens perishables treatment facility    Crowley has opened a specialized facility at Port Everglades for fumigating fruits and vegetables.
   The port said perishable cargo that might normally have to be returned to the country of origin because it harbors pests can now be contained and prepared for fumigation while retaining refrigerated temperatures at what is called a highly mobile actionable pest (HMAP) refrigerated chamber.
   The chamber is available to all shippers transporting perishable cargo into South Florida’s Port Everglades, and the port said in most situations shipments no longer has to be re-exported if highly mobile pests are found and manipulation of the cargo is needed. It added the chamber meets requirements established by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
