EWL switches Irish call to Dublin

EWL switches Irish call to Dublin Dutch shipping line Europe West Indies Lines has switched calls in the Republic of Ireland on its Europe/Canada/Latin America Mainliner service from Foynes in the estuary to the capital Dublin.
   The service is a partnership offering between EWL and Fyffes Atlantic Shipping, a subsidiary of banana company Fyffes plc, and is the only direct link between Ireland and North and South America. American Shipper’s May issue (pages 92-95) covers the Irish Exporters Association’s call for better direct links across the Atlantic.
   From South America the service will transport bananas and pineapples to Dublin while Fyffes Atlantic Shipping will offer general Irish export cargo direct to the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and South America.
   “North America is Ireland’s largest export market outside the European Union, while South America is of growing importance to Irish companies, particularly those in the food and drinks sector,” said Gerry Cunningham, Fyffes Atlantic Shipping’s managing director. “This service means that Irish exporters will now be able to transport goods to these markets in a highly efficient and cost-effective manner using a world-class shipping service.”
