OPERATION SAFE COMMERCE CONTAINER ARRIVES IN SEATTLE    U.S. Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash., demonstrated a new port security initiative called Operation Safe Commerce in Seattle on Monday by opening a newly arrived container fitted with an electronic tracking device.
   The device used on this box is designed to tell what’s in a container, where it has been, and if anyone has tampered with it.
   “This pilot program will allow our nation’s three largest ports (Seattle-Tacoma, Los Angeles-Long Beach, and New York-New Jersey) to know more about what’s inside the millions of containers entering our ports,” said Murray, founder of Operation Safe Commerce and chair of the Senate’s Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee.
   Murray spoke before a delegation of officials that included Rear Adm. Errol Brown, commander of the 13th Coast Guard district; Steven Froehlich, director of stakeholder relations for maritime and land security in the Transportation Security Administration; Tom Harry, Northwest director for U.S. Customs, and Mic Dinsmore, chief executive officer of the port of Seattle.
   The 40-foot container, which had arrived on a MOL vessel from Hong Kong, held 12,060 AM-FM cassette players. The tracking device was provided by Savi Technology.
