Forecaster downgrades Atlantic hurricane projections

Forecaster downgrades Atlantic hurricane projections WSI Corp., the private-sector weather forecasting company, on Wednesday downgraded its forecast for hurricanes this year in the Atlantic, citing cooler-than anticipated water temperatures and differing wind conditions from the lack of an El Nino event in the Pacific.
   WSI said it expects there will be 14 named storms, including six that will turn into hurricanes and three that will became major hurricanes. That is down from the original projection of 15 named storms, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes.
   The company also said conditions indicate there is a greater likelihood of hurricanes in the eastern Gulf and Florida, with a slightly decreased chance of hurricanes in the western Gulf.
