ALLIED HOLDINGS NAMES POOLE CEO, WEST PRESIDENT AND COO

   Allied Holdings Inc. has named A. Mitchell Poole Jr. as vice chairman
and chief executive officer and Randall E. West as president and chief
operating officer of the automotive transportation and logistics group.
Both appointments are effective Jan. 1.
   Poole, who joined the group in 1988, has been president and COO. He succeeds Robert J. Rutland, who will continue to serve as chairman.
   Poole said his immediate goal is to "address unsatisfactory financial
results, primarily in our North American car-hauling operations at Allied
Automotive Group."
   West, president of the Axis Group Inc., Allied’s automotive logistics
subsidiary, has been with the group since 1997. Previously, he spent 14
years with Ryder Systems Inc., managing international operations and
logistics.
