18 companies interested in new Nhava Sheva terminal

18 companies interested in new Nhava Sheva terminal Eighteen parties are interested in developing a new terminal at India’s busiest container port, according to a AXS-Alphaliner.
The Nhava Sheva port complex, part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, will see a fourth container terminal by 2010 on reclaimed land, but a terminal operator/developer has not yet been chosen.
The list includes international heavyweights DP World (which already operates one terminal at Nhava Sheva), Kuwait’s KGL Ports International, as well as shipping lines Hanjin and NYK. There are also a handful of domestic companies that appear ready to bid, includes Essar (an Indian conglomerate with a sizeable shipping division) and Indian construction companies Gammon and Larsen & Toubro. The terminal would be developed through a public-private partnership, with the winning bidder awarded an 18-year concession under a build-operate-transfer model.
Aside from the current DP World facility, Nhava Sheva’s other two terminals are operated by APM Terminals and the national government.
