Air India to start New York/New Delhi non-stop Air India will begin non-stop service between New York and New Delhi, reports The Hindu, an Indian newspaper.
   The new service comes on the heel of the start-up of non-stop service between New York and Mumbai on Aug. 1 and the merger of Air India with Indian Airlines in July. Both national, state-owned carriers, Air India has provided international services while Indian Airlines served as a domestic carrier.
   The paper quoted Indian Managing Director Vishwapati Trivedi as saying a January launch was planned for the non-stop flights between New Delhi and New York.
   He said the merger of Indian and Air India will help the national carrier compete with private airlines.
