DHL, Transmile sign strategic agreement

DHL, Transmile sign strategic agreement    DHL has signed a five-year “strategic network alliance” agreement with Malaysian air cargo carrier Transmile to develop air services in the intra-Asia market.
   Transmile already offers connections to DHL beyond Hong Kong to the United States, as well as to Asia Pacific countries including India, Indonesia and Vietnam.
   “The strategic alliance is an important step for both DHL and Transmile, as it offers us opportunities to tap on the growth of intra-Asia and intercontinental trade volumes to elevate the strategic importance of Malaysia and other Asian countries in world trade,” said Scott Price, DHL Express’ chief executive officer, Asia Pacific.
   DHL has recently invested $1.3 million in its 2,200-square-meter gateway facility at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Malaysia. DHL offers a non-stop 10 times weekly service out of Subang to and from its Transmile-operated Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong.
   DHL’s other investments in Malaysia include $65 million in its Global Information Services Center in Cyberjaya, and $7.9 million into DHL Global Forwarding’s largest logistics center in Kuala Lumpur.
