Dagnese takes the wheel at Con-way Truckload

   Con-Way Inc. has promoted Joseph M. Dagnese to head its Con-Way Truckload subsidiary, succeeding Saul Gonzalez, the Ann Arbor, Mich., company announced earlier this month.
   Dagnese, a 31-year veteran of the transportation industry, previously was vice president – international for Menlo Worldwide Logistics, Conway’s logistics services and supply chain management arm based in the San Francisco metropolitan area.
   Con-way Truckload is based in Joplin, Mo.
   Gonzalez, who has spent 22 years at Con-way, will remain with Con-way Truckload in an unspecified executive capacity, Con-way said.
   The former vice president of operations took over as interim chief executive in September 2012.
   Con-way specialized in less-than-truckload service until 2007, when it acquired Contract Freighters Inc. for $750 million. Herb Schmidt ran CFI and stayed on to lead Con-way Truckload for five years.
   Dagnese has led Menlo’s international operations since September and was responsible for the company-wide deployment of its Global Lean Strategy. For the previous five years, he directed Menlo’s Automotive and Government Services Group, which provides logistics and transportation management services to original equipment auto manufacturers and their top suppliers around the world.
   From 2005 to 2008, Dagnese served as vice president of Menlo’s Consumer, Retail & Industrial Group. He joined Menlo in 1995 as director of transportation and in 1999 became vice president of operations.
   Before joining Menlo, Dagnese spent 14 years with Procter & Gamble Co. in a variety of transportation, logistics and customer service positions, including manager, North American transportation operations.
   He is a graduate of Indiana University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and transportation.
