NY-NJ PORT CHAIRMAN TO RESIGN

NY-NJ PORT CHAIRMAN TO RESIGN    Lewis M. Eisenberg, chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the last seven years, will resign from the bi-state agency to become chairman of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
Tom Wilson, a spokesman for Acting Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco, told AS+ that Eisenberg’s name'has been given to the New Jersey state senate’s judiciary committee. Once Eisenberg’s nomination is confirmed, DiFrancesco will then appoint him chairman of the sports and exposition authority.
Wilson said Eisenberg, an investment banker and Republican fundraiser, actively sought the appointment, “having felt he had done all he could at the Port Authority, and that it was time for him to go.”
Eisenberg’s office and a Port Authority spokesman declined comment.
''The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority built and manages Giants Stadium and other sports arenas and racetracks.
Wilson said that Acting Governor DiFrancesco intends to appoint State Senator Jack G. Sinagra, a Republican from East Brunswick, to replace Eisenberg as one of six Port Authority directors from New Jersey.
DiFrancesco will then consult with New York Governor George Pataki before deciding which of the six will be the new chairman of the Port Authority.
''Wilson also announced the resignation of James Weinstein, commissioner of New Jersey’s transportation department, from the Port Authority’s board of directors.'DiFrancesco has appointed Joseph Buckelew,'chairman of New Jersey’s State Highway Authority, to complete Weinstein’s term, which expires in 2003.
''Sen. Sinagra’s term on the PA board expires in 2005.
