UPS expands cryotransport service to Europe

As part of the UPS Temperature True Cryo service, biomedical parcels holding samples and specimens can be packed in special tanks that keeps items in a deep freeze for up to 10 days.    Express carrier UPS is now offering cryogenic parcel transport to biomedical shippers in Europe to ensure protection of sensitive materials. 
   The new product uses cryogenic containers, which allow customers to use liquid nitrogen stored in dry vapor form to keep products frozen at -150°C for 10 days while in transit or storage. When meeting minimum volume levels, shipments can also be paired with UPS Proactive Response Secure, a financial protection service that provides coverage for time-and-temperature sensitive shipments.
   The service includes real-time tracking and intervention. Shippers will have access to shipment data every step of the journey, UPS said.
   “When products requiring cryopreservation are on the move, customers want peace of mind that their shipments are safeguarded, so bringing this solution to the Europe market was a logical next step as we continue to expand our best-in-class logistics services globally for the healthcare and life science industries,” Jan Denecker, director of healthcare marketing & strategy, UPS Europe, said in a statement. “UPS Temperature True Cryo combines innovative packaging, 24/7 monitoring and intervention capabilities for the most critical time- and temperature-sensitive specimens across tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, biopharmaceutical research and reproductive health.”  
   Potential customers include pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies, research laboratories and other healthcare providers shipping specimens and samples that must be preserved.
   UPS Temperature True Cryo is already available in the United States.
