MAERSK SEALAND STARTS DIRECT AUSTRALASIA/U.S. SERVICE

VINSON NAMED VP, CIO OF CSX WORLD TERMINALS    Maersk Sealand will start a direct service between Australasia and the Americas in September.
   A spokesman for Maersk Sealand said that the new service will allow the carrier to enter the trade, and cover both the east and west coasts of the U.S.
   Previously, Maersk Sealand offered some transshipment connections to and from Australasia via Asian ports.
   The direct service will call at ports of eastern Australia, New Zealand, and at Balboa (Panama), Manzanillo (Panama), Freeport (Bahamas), Philadelphia, Manzanillo, Balboa, Long Beach and ports of eastern Australia and New Zealand. Vessels will call at Long Beach only southbound.
   The new fortnightly service will also provide transshipment connections with the Caribbean, and Central and South America, via Balboa and Manzanillo.
