Oil giant Saudi Aramco selects DHL

Oil giant Saudi Aramco selects DHL DHL Exel Supply Chain, the logistics arm of Germany’s Deutsche Post World Net, has been awarded a 10-year “multi-million-dollar” contract to develop the national logistics infrastructure for the world’s largest crude oil producer, Saudi Aramco.
   The contract will start Jan. 1 and DHL said the transition should be complete by July. The logistics company said the deal is one of the biggest it has achieved in the Middle East region.
   DHL will provide, manage and operate four material distribution centers or cross-docks in Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah and Yanbu, plus a fleet of vehicles and personnel as well as 14 material service centers. To implement these activities, DHL will manage a staff of over 400 people and will also set up a system enabling Saudi Aramco’s customers to track orders on line.
   “DHL Exel Supply Chain in Saudi Arabia will replace the current fragmented logistics arrangements with an integrated supply chain service,' said Mohammed Otaibi, Saudi Aramco’s manager, material logistics.
