Israel import THCs rise with port tariffs    Ocean freight costs to Israel ports are rising significantly due to increased port tariffs assessed since the start of October by the Israeli government, according to a Containerisation International report this week.
   The state-run Israel Ports Corp. this month changed the calculation for import tariffs to one based on the weight of the goods rather than value, driving up costs for carriers.
   As a result carriers have begun implementing heavy terminal handling charges for import boxes. According to the CI report, in October, Mediterranean Shipping Co. has raised its THC to $140 per 20-foot container and $220 per 40-foot container. Israeli line Zim's THCs have risen to $155 per 20-foot container and $235 per 40-foot container. And Hamburg S'd's have gone to $180 per 20-foot container and $240 per 40-footer.
   In August, Israel THCs were about $50 per 20-foot container and $85 per 40-foot container.
