ôAthos IÆ sails to Alabama shipyard for repairs The tanker 'Athos I,' which caused a massive oil spill Nov. 26 in the Delaware River, has been fitted with a temporarily hull patch and is en route to the Atlantic Marine shipyard in Mobile, Ala., for repairs.
   The U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement that 49,695 gallons of oil and 1,817 gallons of submerged oil have been recovered thus far. About 480,000 gallons of oil are believed to have leaked from the 'Athos I' after it struck a length of pipe partially buried in the riverbed. An investigation of the pipe is continuing.
   Oil from the tanker has affected 57 miles of shoreline, from the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge to south of the Smyrna River. About 22 percent of the impacted shoreline has been decontaminated, the Coast Guard said. At least 1,700 responders are working from 83 vessels deployed in the cleanup effort.
