Faulty door doomed roll-on/roll-off vessel The stern ramp of the Panamanian-flagged car carrier 'Dayana' did not close properly because of a broken pin, allowing water to rush in and sink the vessel in the Caribbean two weeks ago, according to Panamanian maritime authorities contacted by Shippers’ News Wire.
   The 495-foot auto transport vessel sank off the coast of Colombia the night of Aug. 10. Four crewmembers were rescued, one died and one is missing.
   The water caused a shortage to the electrical system and left the vessel with no power to commence pumping or other rescue operations.
   The 'Dayana' was carrying 32 automobiles and four trucks in scrap condition.
   The owner of the vessel is Panamanagement S.A. of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
