GPS now accepted on AirNet fleet

Columbus, Ohio-based AirNet Cargo Charter Services, a small package express cargo airline, has announced it will begin accepting customer shipments that contain both GPS and environmental sensor tracking devices.
These devices, classified as personal electronic devices (PEDs), combine GPS and environmental sensors that can provide real-time location and condition information, such as temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, and light. These devices typically are installed in packages and can provide the owner with real-time data through Web portals and text messages.
AirNet is now one of the few cargo airlines that accepts the three most common GPS and sensor devices from OnAsset Intelligence, Moog Crossbow, and GTX Corp.
Prior concerns around disruption to planes themselves have dropped away and these censors also are unlikely to disrupt or influence readings from other nearby devices. “AirNet’s maintenance department and flight operations teams have evaluated, tested, and validated three different manufacturers’ devices across our aircraft fleet,” said Tom Schaner, vice president of operations at AirNet.
“We recognize that our customers, who are often shipping high-value cargo or temperature-controlled cargo, require real-time shipment visibility, tracking, and information about the condition of their package throughout the transportation cycle,” said Holly Stapleton, marketing manager for AirNet.  “By validating these devices on our fleet, we have essentially raised the bar in terms of visibility.”
AirNet operates a fleet of more than 120 aircraft and makes hundreds of scheduled and on-demand charter flights per night throughout North America.  – Geoff Whiting
