Last month, Con-way announced a pay increase for its truckload division.
According to a company statement, it will “increase pay for Con-way Freight drivers system-wide while aligning all locations across the network to pay rates competitive for their geographic market.”
With the increase comes a new pay scale. Con-way officials said all drivers will reach top scale after being with the company for three years.
“Our LTL company, along with Con-way Truckload, is facing the most pronounced driver shortage we’ve ever seen,” Douglas Stotlar, Con-way’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Con-way Freight provides premium service, and the skill and professionalism of our drivers enables us to keep the promises we make to our customers.”
Con-way Freight President Greg Lehmkuhl said the change will align driver compensation with the cost of labor in the marketplace. He also noted that the new pay scale “provides increased flexibility to react to market conditions over time so we can ensure our drivers’ compensation remains competitive.”
