USDA TO HOLD FOOD PROTECTION MEETING SEPT. 24-25    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service will hold a two-day technical conference in Omaha, Neb., on Sept. 24-25, to discuss the spread of contaminants from both domestic and foreign foods.
   The Food Safety and Inspection Service administers the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act and the Egg Products Inspection Act. The agency’s activities are to prevent the spread of unwholesome, adulterated or misbranded meat, poultry and eggs, which pose injury or risk to human health in the United States and abroad.
   The agency has recently turned its attention more to protective measures against foreign contaminants and pathogens in imported foods. The agency will collect information from academia, industry and consumers on the best ways to identify and control potential hazards.
