Aerospace engineer tapped for Long Beach port board

Aerospace engineer tapped for Long Beach port board Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster announced Thursday his choice for the newest member of the city commission that governs the Port of Long Beach.
Aerospace engineer and city planning commission member Nick Sramek, 63, has been tapped by Foster to join the port governing board.
Sramek's nomination now heads to the City Council for approval. If appointed to the six-year term, Sramek will replace Commissioner John Hancock, who termed out last month after serving 12 years on the commission.
The five-member Long Beach Harbor Commission sets policy for the port, which with the neighboring Port of Los Angeles comprises the busiest container port complex in the Western Hemisphere.
Sramek is a former Rockwell International and Mattel employee and now works as a systems engineer at the El Segundo-based Aerospace Corp., a federally funded research and development center focused on space technologies for commercial, public and government uses.
“My engineering background says I want to learn, take in data and really inform myself before I come to any conclusions,” Sramek told the Long beach Press Telegram. “From there, I vote on what my heart and instinct tell me.”
