The United States and Mexico entered an agreement March 6 to suspend trade litigation in multiple disputes before the North American Free Trade Agreement and World Trade Organization, and reach compromise on antidumping duty claims.
The agreement also allows for the import of 3 million metric tons of Mexican concrete to assist with rebuilding hurricane-ravaged cities in the U.S. Gulf. To enforce this restriction, the agreement calls for an export licensing program by Mexico and an import licensing program by Commerce.
CBP will accept comments regarding the proposed import licensing program through June 21. For more information, contact Alice Buchanan in the agency’s Office of Field Operations at (202) 344-2697.
The U.S.-Mexico agreement is scheduled to expire March 31, 2009, unless terminated earlier by the governments.
