Miami air service market expanding

Miami air service market expanding Miami International Airport continues to expand its market reach, adding new carriers and new destinations, according to statistics released by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
   Through January, there were 97 airlines serving the airport, including 72 scheduled carriers and 25 charter air services. Of those, 50 carriers were U.S.-based, and 47 from other countries.
   That compares with 93 carriers in February 2007. Miami International had a net gain of five charter carriers and one international carrier, with one less scheduled carrier than year ago.
   There are still 71 international destinations served going into this year, and the airport has 51 domestic destinations, an increase of four.
   The report said Miami is ranked No. 1 in the United States for international freight services, and has moved up one spot to 10th for number of international freight services worldwide.
