The port awarded the contract to deepen the berth to 41 feet and extend it from 1,000 feet to nearly 1,600 feet.
The $14.8 million contract is the final piece of an 11-year, $200 million expansion at the port.
The port said it expects the new berth to accommodate containerized shipping and to be operational by August 2011. The berth sits adjacent to a 52-acre container terminal.
