DHL WORLDWIDE ADOPTS INDEXED FUEL SURCHARGE

DHL WORLDWIDE ADOPTS INDEXED FUEL SURCHARGE    DHL Worldwide Express, the international air express carrier, said it will implement an indexed fuel surcharge for U.S. domestic and export international deliveries.
   The result of the indexed surcharge, effective Feb. 3, will be to lower the current 3-percent surcharge to 0.5 percent.
   The new surcharge will be linked to the monthly rounded average of the U.S. Gulf Coast spot price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel, as published monthly by the U.S. Department of Energy. The surcharge, effective the first Sunday of each month, will reflect the average pricing for the month that is two months prior to the adjustment.
   'DHL will adopt this methodology as a means of more closely linking a surcharge to market prices,' said Jeffrey Corbett, senior vice president sales and marketing for DHL. 'This will support DHL and its customers in quickly responding to fuel price fluctuations.'
